Quick Answer

The week of October 12-18, 2026 stacks concerts, hockey, football and free festivals: Metallica plays Sphere on Thursday and Saturday, the Golden Knights host Calgary and Pittsburgh at T-Mobile Arena, the Lakers and Warriors bring NBA preseason to Las Vegas on Tuesday, and the Raiders host Buffalo at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday. Henderson's free Bluegrass Festival fills Water Street Plaza on Saturday, Las Vegas PRIDE closes its week with the festival at Desert Breeze, and the German American Club of Nevada pours Oktoberfest in North Las Vegas. Pumpkin patches stay open through Halloween, and October hiking remains in full swing at Valley of Fire, Red Rock Canyon and Mount Charleston.

This week's edition of What's Happening in Nevada covers October 12 through 18, 2026, and it is a full plate: Metallica plays the second week of its Sphere residency, the Golden Knights host Calgary and Pittsburgh at T-Mobile Arena, the Lakers and Warriors bring NBA preseason basketball to Las Vegas, and the Raiders host Buffalo at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday. On the free side, Henderson's Bluegrass Festival returns to Water Street Plaza on Saturday, Las Vegas PRIDE closes its week with the festival at Desert Breeze, and the German American Club of Nevada pours Oktoberfest in North Las Vegas. Pumpkin patches stay open through Halloween, and the fall hiking window at Valley of Fire, Red Rock Canyon and Mount Charleston is still wide open. Read on for dates, locations, admission and official links.

Concerts and Shows This Week

Metallica at Sphere: Week Two

Metallica's Sphere residency runs October 1 through March 13, 2027, and this week's shows are Thursday, October 15 and Saturday, October 17, both at 8:00 PM. Sphere's wraparound screen turns the band's catalog into a full visual production, and Live Nation sells a two-day ticket for the pair of dates. Tickets are the only admission, and they move fast, so check the Sphere's show page or the Live Nation Sphere events list first. Also at Sphere this week: The Wizard of Oz immersive film experience runs daily with multiple showtimes, a family-friendly option that does not need a concert ticket.

New Kids on the Block at Dolby Live

New Kids on the Block's "The Right Stuff" residency at Dolby Live inside Park MGM runs October 2 through 17, so this is the final week to catch it. Dates and tickets are on the NKOTB Vegas page.

Barry Manilow and Turnstile on Thursday

Thursday, October 15 is a two-venue night: Barry Manilow plays the International Theater at Westgate Las Vegas at 6:30 PM, and Turnstile plays the Amphitheater at Craig Ranch Regional Park in North Las Vegas. The running Las Vegas concert list at concerts.vegas tracks both and the rest of the week's smaller shows.

The Colosseum Residencies Keep Rolling

Kelly Clarkson's Studio Sessions and Rod Stewart's Encore Shows continue at the Colosseum inside Caesars Palace, with dates varying by week. The Caesars Palace shows page has the exact schedule.

Sports: Hockey, Basketball and Football

Two Golden Knights Home Games

The Vegas Golden Knights host the Calgary Flames on Thursday, October 15 at 7:00 PM and the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday, October 17 at 7:00 PM, both at T-Mobile Arena. The team opens the week on the road (Monday at Minnesota, Tuesday at Nashville), so these two games are the homecoming stretch. See the T-Mobile Arena Golden Knights page and the ESPN Golden Knights schedule for tickets and times.

Lakers vs. Warriors at T-Mobile Arena

NBA preseason comes to Las Vegas on Tuesday, October 13 at 7:00 PM, when the Los Angeles Lakers take on the Golden State Warriors at T-Mobile Arena. It is a rare chance to see two of the league's biggest brands in the same building on a Tuesday night; tickets are on the T-Mobile Arena sports events page.

Raiders Host Buffalo on Sunday

The Las Vegas Raiders host the Buffalo Bills at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday, October 18 at 1:25 PM PT, broadcast on CBS. It is the Raiders' only home game of the month outside the October 4 opener, so expect a full stadium and heavy traffic around the Strip that afternoon. The Raiders 2026 schedule has the full picture.

Festivals and Free Community Events

Henderson Bluegrass Festival (Free)

The City of Henderson's Bluegrass Festival returns to Water Street Plaza on Saturday, October 17 from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and it is free. The third-year lineup includes Sister Sadie, Authentic Unlimited, Kristy Cox & Grasstime, the Tray Wellington Band and East Nash Grass, plus food vendors around the plaza. The City of Henderson special events page is the official source, and FOX5 Vegas previewed this year's lineup.

Las Vegas PRIDE closes its October 9-17 celebration with the PRIDE Festival on Saturday, October 17 from noon to 10:00 PM at the Desert Breeze Events Center. The grounds are family-friendly (PG) until 7:00 PM, then transition to a 21+ after-dark program. Admission is ticketed, and the Las Vegas PRIDE site has passes and the full weekend lineup.

German American Club Oktoberfest in North Las Vegas

The German American Club of Nevada holds its Oktoberfest on Friday, October 16 and Saturday, October 17 at 1110 E. Lake Mead Boulevard in North Las Vegas, with traditional German food, beer, music and dancing. It is one of the most authentic Oktoberfests in the valley; see germanamericanclubnv.com for hours and admission.

Phil Wickham at Lee's Family Forum

Phil Wickham's Song of the Saints Tour stops at Lee's Family Forum in Henderson on Thursday, October 15 at 4:00 PM and Friday, October 16 at 7:00 PM, a two-night run at the arena in Henderson.

A Northern Nevada Weekend

If you can get out of the valley for a day or two: Mark Twain Days runs October 13-17 in Carson City and Virginia City, celebrating the writer's Northern Nevada years with performances, history walks and community events (Visit Carson City). The Minden-Tahoe SkyFest air show takes over the Minden-Tahoe Airport October 16-18 (Visit Carson Valley), and Genoa holds its Oktoberfest on Saturday, October 17. In Reno, Dragon Lights Reno, the illuminated lantern festival at Rancho San Rafael Park, continues through November 29 (dragonlightsreno.org).

October Hiking: Three Classic Day Trips

Early morning desert hiking trail winding through red sandstone formations in Valley of Fire

Valley of Fire

Nevada's oldest state park, about an hour northeast of Las Vegas in Overton, is open sunrise to sunset every day. Day-use entry is $10 per vehicle with Nevada plates and $15 for out-of-state plates. October is when the summer heat closures lift, so Fire Wave, White Domes, Pastel Canyon and the Seven Wonders Loop are all open again. One current wrinkle: the west entrance is closed Monday through Thursday for construction through the end of 2026, so arrive via the east entrance on SR 167/169 midweek. Confirmed on the official Nevada State Parks Valley of Fire page. October days run roughly 75 degrees with overnight lows near freezing, and you still want at least a gallon of water per person. My full write-up is in Valley of Fire: A Las Vegas Local's Day Trip.

Red Rock Canyon

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area's scenic drive opens daily at 6:00 AM and closes at 7:00 PM in October. Entry is $20 per passenger vehicle, and a timed-entry reservation is required October 1 through May 31 for vehicles entering between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM; book on Recreation.gov or call (877) 444-6777, with a small processing fee. Arrive before 8:00 AM or after 5:00 PM and no reservation is needed. Fees and hours are confirmed on the Friends of Red Rock fees page. For trail picks and scenery, start with my Exploring Red Rock Canyon guide.

Mount Charleston

The aspens are still holding color in mid-October at Lee Canyon and along Kyle Canyon Road, and this is one of the last good leaf-peeping weekends of the year. Access is via NV-157 and NV-156, and there is no entrance fee or timed entry. Two things to know: it is cold up top, with daytime highs in the 50s and 60s at Lee Canyon's elevation and overnight lows near freezing, and storm-damage closures from 2023 remain in effect, including Mary Jane Falls and Trail Canyon trails, Cathedral Rock Trail, Echo Road and the Upper Bristlecone Trailhead. Check the Spring Mountains current conditions page before you drive up. More detail is in Exploring Mount Charleston.

One Good Weekend, Assembled

If you only have Saturday: start mid-morning at Gilcrease Orchard or a Henderson pumpkin patch, spend the afternoon at the free Bluegrass Festival on Water Street Plaza, and finish with the Golden Knights vs. Pittsburgh at T-Mobile Arena if you have tickets, or the PRIDE Festival at Desert Breeze. If you would rather be outside all day, hike Fire Wave or an aspen grove on Mount Charleston in the morning and catch the bluegrass in the evening.

Quick Answers to Common Questions

Are the pumpkin patches still open in mid-October?

Yes. Gilcrease Orchard, the Vegas Pumpkin Patch at Cowabunga Bay and the Moapa Valley Corn Maze all run through at least October 31, so mid-October is prime pumpkin season. Hours and admission vary, so confirm on each farm's official site before you go.

Do I need a reservation for Red Rock Canyon in October?

Yes, for the scenic drive between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Timed-entry reservations are required October 1 through May 31; book on Recreation.gov or call (877) 444-6777. Enter before 8:00 AM or after 5:00 PM and no reservation is needed.

What does it cost to get into Valley of Fire?

Day-use entry is $10 per vehicle with Nevada plates and $15 for out-of-state plates, and the park is open sunrise to sunset daily. The west entrance is closed Monday through Thursday for construction through the end of 2026, so use the east entrance on SR 167/169 midweek.

A Few Practical Notes

Dates, lineups and construction windows change, so confirm anything time-sensitive on the official links above before you go. October weather in the valley is close to ideal, with warm days and cool evenings, but hiking still demands water, layers for the mountains and an early start. And if a weekend in one of these areas has you wondering what it would be like to live there, Lisa's Moving to Las Vegas guide, the Henderson community guide, and her North Las Vegas living guide are good places to start, and you can search current homes while you are at it.
