Living in Boulder City, Nevada

Living in Boulder City, Nevada

Boulder City sits just southeast of the Las Vegas Valley, approximately 25 minutes from the Strip. It is a city with a unique origin story, a small-town atmosphere, and access to notable outdoor recreation in Southern Nevada.

Built Because of Hoover Dam

Boulder City was established in 1931 as a planned community to house workers building the Hoover Dam. The federal government designed and built the city, including the Boulder City Hospital, the Boulder Theatre, and the historic Boulder Dam Hotel. Unlike other Nevada cities, Boulder City was one of the last places in the state where gambling was legalized, only doing so in 2018 with a restricted license for a single downtown location.

A Unique Identity

Boulder City has maintained a small-town character that sets it apart from the rest of the Las Vegas Valley. The city has strict zoning and development regulations that have preserved its historic character. The downtown area features a classic main street with locally owned shops, restaurants, and the historic Boulder Theatre. The city has a strong sense of community and civic pride.

Outdoor Access

Boulder City is the gateway to the Hoover Dam, Lake Mead National Recreation Area, and the Colorado River. Residents have immediate access to boating, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, and rock climbing. The River Mountains Loop Trail connects Boulder City to Henderson and Lake Mead. The Historic Railroad Trail offers a scenic hike along the old Hoover Dam railway.

Housing in Boulder City ranges from historic homes near downtown to newer subdivisions on the city's edges. Prices tend to be higher than comparable homes in North Las Vegas but lower than premium communities in Summerlin. For buyers seeking a small-town lifestyle with notable outdoor recreation, Boulder City is a unique and compelling option.
